One of my New Year's resolutions was to blog about my couture wedding invitation projects more often. They are the light of my (working) life and the thing that I love about my job more than anything.
Georgie & Dave's wedding invitation suite was quite an epic project, merging two-colour letterpress print with an intricate laser cut folder. This couple may be Melbourne cityfolk, but their attitudes and values were just so beautifully down-to-earth that I felt a simple but rustic vibe was needed for their invitations. They were married under a canopy of trees at The Boulevard and rather than just paying lip service to this, I illustrated an intricate tree that was laser-cut to create a silhouette over the letterpressed invitations underneath. A heart cut into its trunk aligned perfectly with the couple's heart monogram below and this motif ran throughout all of their stationery. The whole suite was tied up in cotton string with a gift tag - a detail which is fast becoming a Saint Gertrude signature.
I love hearing about how my customer's guests react to a really intricate or creative wedding invitation. Georgie emailed me to say that she needed to hire a PA to respond to all the complimentary text messages her guests were sending but it was a comment she said came from one of Dave's friends (after all, dudes don't generally notice let alone care about wedding invitations) which was the highest compliment of all:
"These invitations are amaze-balls."
